Day trip from Rome
Siena and San Gimignano in a day, from Rome
A shell-shaped square, a cathedral in black and white stripes, a town of medieval towers and a glass of Vernaccia: Tuscany at its most beautiful, in one day.
In short
Siena is about two and a half hours from Rome, San Gimignano fifty minutes from Siena. You enjoy three hours in Siena, lunch included, and an hour and a half among the towers of San Gimignano, crossing Tuscany’s loveliest hills. Price for the whole car: from € 680 + 10% VAT by sedan, from € 750 by van, tolls and fuel included.
This is the tour for anyone who dreams of Tuscany’s hill towns: medieval squares, steep lanes, wine and hills at every bend. A day with a more relaxed rhythm than Florence, made to be savoured.

Siena
Piazza del Campo is the heart of Siena: the shell-shaped square where the Palio horse race is run twice a year, on 2 July and 16 August. Above it rises the Torre del Mangia, which you can climb for views over the city and the countryside.
The Cathedral is one of the most beautiful churches in Italy: a facade and columns in black and white marble stripes, an inlaid floor and the Piccolomini Library with Pinturicchio’s frescoes. It deserves at least an hour.
San Gimignano
Of the more than seventy medieval towers it once had, San Gimignano keeps fourteen: from a distance it looks like a town of stone skyscrapers. The centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and takes an hour and a half on foot.
This is the home of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the local white wine: a glass in the square or a tasting at a winery outside the walls is the right way to end the day.

On Palio days, 2 July and 16 August, Siena is packed from the morning: a unique experience, but it needs a different plan. Tell us and we will prepare it.
A stop at a Chianti winery between Siena and San Gimignano can be added, with slightly shorter visits. We help you choose and book it; the tasting is paid directly to the winery.
