Day trip from Rome
Florence day trip from Rome, with a private driver
The Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Ponte Vecchio and the view from Piazzale Michelangelo: the best of Florence in one day, with no trains and no taxi queues.
In short
Florence is about 280 km from Rome, three easy hours on the motorway. You get five full hours in the city: the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Ponte Vecchio and a museum of your choice, ending with the view from Piazzale Michelangelo, where the car takes you. Price for the whole car: from € 730 + 10% VAT by sedan, from € 800 by van, tolls and fuel included.
Florence is the day trip not to miss when you are in Rome for a few days: the city of the Renaissance, three hours away. The secret is knowing what to see, and here we show you how to make the most of the day.
With a car and driver you don’t lose a minute on taxis, stations and trains: we pick you up at your hotel, take you to the edge of the historic centre and collect you when you are done. All you have to do is enjoy the city.
The day, hour by hour
- 7:30 · Departure from your hotel in Rome, sitting back in comfort on the Autostrada del Sole.
- 10:30 · Arrival in Florence and start of the walking visit.
- 10:30 – 13:00 · The Duomo with Brunelleschi’s dome, the Baptistery and Giotto’s Bell Tower, then Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio. Or a booked visit to the Uffizi or to the David at the Accademia.
- 13:00 · Lunch in a trattoria: ribollita, bistecca alla fiorentina or the famous lampredotto sandwich at the Mercato Centrale.
- 14:30 – 16:00 · The Ponte Vecchio and its goldsmiths, the Oltrarno and, by car, Piazzale Michelangelo for the finest view of Florence.
- 16:00 · Departure for Rome, back at your hotel around 19:00.
Why it is worth it
Within a few hundred metres Florence puts Brunelleschi’s dome, the Medici’s square and the goldsmiths’ bridge right in front of you. It is the Renaissance brought to life, all within walking distance: one marvel after another.
The finale is Piazzale Michelangelo, with the whole city at your feet. On foot it would be a half-hour climb; with your driver you are there in minutes, and the day ends with the best photo of the trip.
What to see when time is short
The Duomo takes your breath away from the outside alone. If you want to climb Brunelleschi’s dome, 463 steps up to the view over the rooftops, book a time slot and allow about an hour.
The Uffizi, with Botticelli’s Venus, needs two to three hours. The Accademia, with Michelangelo’s David, about an hour. In one day it is best to pick one and enjoy the rest of the city.
The Ponte Vecchio and the Oltrarno are Florence at its most authentic: artisan workshops, Piazza Santo Spirito, the palaces along the Arno.
Practical tips
The Uffizi and the Accademia are closed on Mondays, and tickets should be booked on the official websites a few days ahead: without a booking the queue can take half your day.
Central Florence is a restricted traffic zone: the driver drops you off and picks you up at its edge, always a few minutes’ walk from the sights. Bring comfortable shoes.
We help you plan the day: timings, museum bookings and a place for lunch. Tickets and lunch are paid directly to the people who provide them; our price covers the car with driver.

Frequently asked questions
Florence day trip
Can we see both the Uffizi and the David?
It can be done, but only with both entries booked at close times and by giving up most of the walk: the Uffizi needs two to three hours, the Accademia about one. For a first visit we suggest a single museum and more time for the city.
Can we change the itinerary?
Yes, the plan is an example. Stops and timings are decided with you: the tour lasts 11 hours from pick-up at your hotel to drop-off.
Can you help with museums and lunch?
Yes, we help you organise the day: we suggest timings, tell you how to book the museums and recommend where to eat. Tickets and lunch are paid directly to the people who provide them.
How many people can come?
Up to 3 passengers by sedan, up to 7 by van. The price is for the whole car, not per person.
